One of the most commonly suggested treatments is to bathe your feet in vinegar. This is because the acidic content should, in theory, prevent the fungus from spreading and over time cure it. While this may all work in theory I personally found that it made little difference. It has been suggested that you need to keep this up for a long time to get any results and consistent bathing in vinegar is not very practical for most of us.

The vinegar treatment will quite possibly work if you have the discipline to keep it up for the time required, possibly up to an hour a day, and are willing to apply it daily, but it seems a bit much when there are faster acting solutions available.

The other most commonly mentioned treatment for toenail fungus is to soak your feet in mouthwash. This is one of the home remedies that people suggest but that very few people ever seem to have tried successfully. It is another example of something that may work but will require a lot of time soaking your feet before you see any kind of results.

Of course these and other home remedies have some basis in truth but generally it is that they work for a small number of people and are not going to work for the vast majority. It will depend on how bad the problem is and particularly if it is infected underneath the nail.

The most effective treatment in my opinion is to use a natural homeopathic solution. This is a fantastic middle ground because you are using all natural oils which are kind to your skin and avoiding any potential risk of a medicine. The difference between this and a home remedy is that it has been effectively formulated solely for the purpose of treating fungal infections so is far quicker and more effective.
